The Meaning of Home

Home is a place where you feel cozy and loved. Home is a roof over your head, but more importantly, the people who make you feel safe and cherished in that home. You can be in your house, but it doesn't necessarily feel like your home because you don't feel happy and valued. Home is a feeling full of memories that warm your heart every time they are remembered. Home is where you come home from school and find your room waiting for you to do your homework, arts and crafts, or other fun things you like to do in your own snug space. A room where you slumber at night and snooze in the morning. A room where you can have your best friends over for sleepovers and comfortably watch a touching movie, eating tasty chips and buttery popcorn. Feeling all warm and fuzzy, telling secrets or sharing your biggest fears with those you trust. Home is your shelter. When you are at home, you feel out of harm's way. In your home, you feel safe and free. I am aware of the current housing crisis, and I am heartbroken by this situation. It makes me very sad to think that there are people who are homeless and in desperate need of shelter. Everyone deserves to have a roof over their head, clean water to drink, and food to eat. But especially, everyone deserves a home - to have a feeling of comfort and security with the people they love and cherish. I want the housing crisis to change, which is why I entered this contest. This is what home means to me.
