Home Is Where My Heart Is

My definition of home is different from all of my friends. Almost everyone has a different definition. A home is not just a building, home is a feeling. When you are at home you need to feel loved and accepted as just the way you are. When you have a home it means that the people you love and the people that love you are all around you. Home is a place where you enjoy spending your time. When I think of home, I think of a ship and a lighthouse. The lighthouse guides the ship to the shore when it's dark and a home guides us and makes us feel safe. Just like the lighthouse. A house is just a building, and it is only temporary. But a home is permanent. A home makes you feel secure and loved. Home is a place where you can tell the most terrible joke and not get made fun of. Home is the place where you grew up. You may think of a home as just a building, but when you go inside the house you see the special things about the family that lives there. The home brings out the culture and the special features of them. A home is when your family comes in and you can feel them say “I love you” before they say it. A home doesn’t have to be a big huge mansion to be one. There are all types of houses that can be a home. No matter where you live you should always have a home. No matter the size of it, it is always a home. Think of all those houseless people. I don’t like to call them homeless, because they still have a home even though they don’t have a house. That's why I’m always grateful for anything, and everything I have. I bet they still have a home even though they don’t have a house. A home should be a safe place. A place where you can talk about almost anything. A place where you can say anything freely. A home doesn't have to be where you live, but it is where it feels like your home. All of the memories that are contained inside the four walls of that home are slipped into boxes in the basement, hidden in the messy closet in my younger siblings bedroom, even in the most odd of places. Like the many memories that are concealed inside the washing machine, and those memories that are still being made on the trampoline in the backyard. Memories, love, and family is what makes a house a home. My home is where my heart is.
