The Meaning of Home

Where you are loved and cared for, where you feel secure and comforted, where you are with loved ones; that’s the true meaning of home. Home, when some people think of home they imagine a living room, a kitchen, bathroom, some bedrooms or maybe an apartment. But home is much more than that. Ask yourself why you are so comfortable at home; and no, the answer is not a comfy couch or a fluffy pillow. It’s because you are loved. It’s because you can express your emotions, opinions and feelings freely. Home is where you can be yourself and be loved as you are without conditions. Home is where you can give a big hug to your loved ones, where you can always find a shoulder to cry on. Home is where you will never be intimidated. The feeling of home is getting under a warm blanket when you are cold. Home is where you can help people and where people help you, where you can have soft buttery hands give you a warm embrace. Home is where you can make connections and bond, where you hear the sounds of slurps while drinking soup, the crunch of someone biting into a delicious chip. Home is a freshly cooked meal prepared by your mom. Home is listening to your dad’s playlist that always makes you want to dance. Home is your sister teaching you new gymnastics tricks, and you failing miserably at imitating them. It’s the simple joy of kicking a soccer ball around in the basement. Home is waking up to the smell of eggs and the bright sun poking through your window. Home is all things love and comfort. Home cannot be taken away because it’s a feeling, not a place. Home is family. My family is my home.
