What I Call Home

When people say the word “Home”, I think of my two cats bounding up to my legs and purring loudly, tempting me to sit down on my couch and stroke them till my dad calls “Dinner!” When I write the word “Home”, a memory pops up into my head. A memory of me and my sister playing volleyball on a crisp fall morning, the ball flying through the air, it rebounding off my palms, my mom watching us with a smile on her face. When I think of the word “Home”, I think of sitting down on my dad’s bed in front of our TV, squashed in between my dad, mom and sister, eating buttery, salty popcorn. Suddenly my dad presses start and the screen lights up. But while I’m writing this poem, sitting on my couch, a fuzzy blanket on my legs, my cat Sparkle purring contentedly on my lap, I just wanted to say thank you to Habitat for Humanity for sharing this with people who need a home.
