What Home Means to Me

Greetings today I will be talking about what home means to me. home is like a place that has everything that you need in it. This essay will be about what home means to me. I will be talking about three different topics. One, differences between building a house vs building a home. Two, how family helps create a home. Three, favorite home memories. Let’s talk about the differences about the words “house” and “home”. There are several differences between building a house vs a home and there’s similarities. Building a house is building a structure, building a home is creating any space where you feel like it belongs to you. Both usually have a family in them. Building a home is making a space personal to your likes. Building a house is more for all people (bathrooms, kitchen, etc.) When you build a house you use bricks, concrete, wood, cement. When you build a home its with love, kindness, togetherness. A house is for a family to live in, to eat in, to bathe in, to live in and a home is for the same reason. When you drive down the street you see windows, bricks, roofs but if you were to go into those houses it would look a lot different for each of those houses. These are some of the differences and similarities between a house and a home. A house can live without a family but a family cannot live without a home. A family makes a house feel like a home by making it look lived in, making others feel welcome when they come over and keeping neat and tidy. When I think of family in a home, I think of my mom making food, dad working on paperwork or bills and laughing with my toys. My house is very comfortable. I have a nice warm bed with a pillow and blanket and a place to work on projects or crochet and a kitchen to make food and eat. That’s how we make it feel lived in. When we have guests come over we, show them where the bathrooms are, we feed them good food, we offer them drinks. This is how we try to make them feel welcome. A family helps make a house feel like a home by keeping it clean. In our family we clean the house about every Saturday so that when we have friends or family over on the weekends its clean and welcoming. These are some of the ways a family makes a house feel like a home. Memories are created in my home by experiences and doing something fun. The three memories I want to share are putting up our tent inside, moving from our old house to our new house and jumping from the stairs. When we lived in our smaller house my mom bought my dad a really big tent for his birthday. And when it came in she wanted to see what it looked like but it way too big and didn’t fit in our living room. Which was the biggest room in our house. It was really funny because Dad was coming home and it was way too big and Mom was trying to fit it back in the bag before he got back. The day we moved we rented a moving van and it had ramp and me and Michael ran in and out of the moving van all day. Then we helped Mom and Dad by carrying a bunch of stuff into the moving van. And afterwards our feet were black because we were barefoot the whole time. In our new we had for the first time in my life, we have played a lot on the stairs. We’ve lined up our mattresses to make a slide on the stairs. We pile our couch cushions at the bottom of the stars and jump into them from high up. I have a lot more memories than these but these are a few examples. To me a home means where you live, have everything that you need get warm hugs from your mom or dad and Where you have food, water and space to work. But its also a place where your family are. Your sister, your brother, your mom, your dad. Home makes you feel happy, excited, safe. At the end of a long day of school I really want to go home. Home is a place that every body deserves.
