Where Home is Found

Home could be found in my room. It could be with me inside my little space full of love that is truly my own, a place that I can share all my feelings with, positive or negative. Home could be found in my house. It could be forever embedded in the carpet of the hallway, or in the soft creak of the doors. This building is more than just pipes, insulation, and other materials. It has more value than its price. It is more than just a house. It is truly a home. Home could be found in my city. The capital of the province BC. The city named after a queen. It could be on the familiar streets I travel and echoing through sounds I hear every day. Home could be found in my country. Maybe home is woven through the fabric of our red and white flag emblazoned with a maple leaf, flying boldly no matter what. It could be in every patriotic note of the national anthem, or zooming along with the pride that explodes inside me when I think about being Canadian, being able to call this wonderful, peaceful place my homeland. Home could be found on our planet. It could be orbiting the Sun with the blue and green sphere that I and about eight billion other people call home, or whispering through the sunlight that comes down through the atmosphere. It could be in the forests, the tundras, the deserts, the rainforests, the beaches, or the cities. Or maybe home is closer than you think. Maybe home has made itself a home inside every last one of us. Home unites us. We are all human. We all are able to feel love, pain, and every other feeling. We are all alive. We all know what it’s like to live every day, even if some days you just want to put your life on pause. We all need a family, people to love us even when we aren’t our best, people to be our friends forever, people to take care of us, even if we aren’t biologically related to them. To me, home isn’t just a word or a strict place. It’s a feeling. It’s a phenomenon. It’s something that someone may wait their whole life to get. I am really lucky to have felt this from the start of my life. My hope is that one day, everyone will feel this feeling, and have a place to spread their love around, and shelter them from weather, and sometimes, from life. So open your mind. Your heart. You will see that your home is not that far away.
