What Home Is To Me

When you think of home, you're probably going to think of a real house. One with a roof, a door, windows and walls. But that's not the home I'm going to be writing about. I'm going to be writing about the home in your heart. For instance, my friend Noa, the home in her heart is at the barn. Where she has her horse Joey. Or for Mickey Mouse, his home is wherever his pals are. I think he feels that way, because when he’s with them he feels safe, like nothing will go wrong. For Grace, who is a character from a book I wrote, I would think her home is the arena, right on the rink. It's the one place where nothing bad can never happen. Except for losing. Another one is The Croods, from “The Croods A New Age”. The Croods is a family that have been looking for their tomorrow (their home) for a very long time. But, after a while of searching, they finally found it. Their “tomorrow” is with the Goodmans. They feel at home with the Goodmans because in their “tomorrow” world, there is everything you need. Sure, it needed getting used to, but eventually they knew, it would be their tomorrow forever and always. A few days ago, there was a poem that caught my eye. I found it very fitting for this. It was called “Home”. And, this is how it went. “Home is where the heart is, and where it must stay. However hard this sounds to you, look at it this way. The sun has started shining, we see the flowers grow. Our mornings seem much brighter, and warmer winds now blow. As spring replaces winter, and day defeats the night. The world will keep evolving, and in my home I will be alright.” I find this poem very unique. Because of the words it contains, how it really shows what home means. Sally Fingerett once said, “home is where the heart is.” I wake up every day and tell myself that. I also tell myself that home doesn't need to be your residence or the place where you live, but a place where you always feel safe and happy. A place where you can laugh and cry. Home is a place of family, and that doesn't always necessarily mean blood related. It means you can rely on anyone and tell them anything no matter what. At home you don't have to worry about anything. When you're home you don't have to look your best, or act properly. It's ok if you're wearing your Scooby-Doo pajamas and your hair is all over the place. Well reading this, you are probably wondering where is the home in my heart? To be completely honest, I don't quite know yet. It could be school or the rink like Grace. What I do know is when I find it, it will be absolutely perfect. This might sound a little too much like a fairy tale, but I will have all my family and friends there with me and we will live happily ever after. HOPEFULLY. I can't wait to find out where my home really is, and I hope you enjoyed reading this, I don't even really know what to call it. I just hope it was fun to read. Yours truly, Ellie Bernstein
