A House vs. A Home

A House has bricks, walls, floors, ceilings, and a roof, but that's not always what matters! Having a nice house or nice things doesn’t make a home. As Secundus once said, “Home is where the heart is.” A Home is where there are kind loving people who love you so much, where you have healthy food to eat, an outdoor space to play in the snow with your siblings, and a nice cozy bed that will keep you warm at night. Home is a place where you should feel safe and protected and be able to share your thoughts, your questions, and your love. It can also be a big, fluffy four legged friend! I feel at home at the barn. When I'm at the barn I feel so calm and relaxed and all my problems just go away. Horses keep me stable and I love my pony Joey who always comforts me. I also feel at home at school, where I am loved by teachers and student services. I am able to get a Jewish education and learn all about the holidays and traditions. My school has helped me so much throughout the years! One of the places I felt the most loved and happy was the Jewish General Hospital program for kids who need help learning to control their ADHD. I have ADHD, Attention Deficit, Hyperactive Disorder. I learned so much there and they helped me so much. This was also like a home. My goal when I get older is to help build houses for people in need. I entered this contest because I want to pay it forward and help people the way I have been helped. I believe that being kind will change the world one step at a time!
