The Meaning of Home

A house is made of wood, concrete, and drywall, A house is also made of walls, floors, and other physical materials. A home is family, safety, and emotions, like love, joy, peace, and kindness. A house protects you from the elements; a home protects you from abuse. A home is where you can feel safe and be loved. A home is where you can be yourself, be comfortable, enjoy life, not feel guilt, and be with family and friends. A home is where you can play games and have fun. A home is the sweet smell of cookies, the flowery smell of perfume, and the meaty smell of bacon, the slimy smell of fish water and the lavender smell of soap. home sounds like the rumble of the fish tank filter, the hissing of the kettle boiling, and the beeps and bloops of video games, crunching chips, and the chatter of parents. A home feels like a warm blanket, a hug, and a video game controller, a cup of hot chocolate, and cake. Everyone deserves a house and a home, so that is why I have written this piece, to help Habitat for Humanity raise money for people without a house or a home. If you had to choose between a house or a home, which would you choose? I would choose a home.
