Home is Not a What, It's a Who

Now I know this poem should be about what home means to me but home is not just a building that you live in. Home is not a what it’s a who. It could be you annoying the guts out of your sibling or playing games with the whole family. Home can be you chilling on the couch while your sibling is nagging you to use the tv but then your parents wanting to use the tv so you have to let your parents use it. It can be you just chilling in your room talking to people or just doing your favorite things like drawing or dancing to music. Home is where you feel confident, safe and free to be yourself without having to put a mask on. Home is where you can ask for help and not be afraid of the mistakes you make on accident. Home is not a place that your house is or your apartment or even a shack or heck even the planet you are on right now. Those are just the places you stay so you don’t die from the weather or starvation. Home is not a what it’s a who so that can be your mom, dad, brother, sister, cousin, uncle, aunt, grandma, grampa, in laws, step mother, step father, step sister, step brother, foster families or even pets. It doesn’t matter if you share the same blood or even the same species. It only matters what they are to you so that could be a teacher, EA , a best friend who feels like a sibling. It doesn’t matter where home is, all that matters is the people that make you feel like Home.
