The Meaning of Home

What makes me feel at home is my family. I feel safe, loved, and cared for when I’m with my family. My family and I, we eat together. We watch TV together. And sometimes we play games together. My family loves and accepts me for who I am. When I’m home with my family I feel safe. I know that home is safe because of something that happened in my family. My brother used to be scared of a cat next to our house. There was a big river nearby. When someone threw a big gun into the river, the cat sprang up at my brother and he ran back to my mom, to home. At home, my family and I feel safe. Three years ago I left my country, my old house, my old neighborhood behind. I left the weather I knew, the language I knew, and my friends. But I still have a home because my family is with me here, in Canada. So I still feel safe, loved and cared for.
