The Meaning of Home

When I was 6 years old, my home was destroyed in a fire. After that, while my house was being rebuilt, my family had to move from house to house, first my neighbours then my cousins, then we rented our first house but we never stayed somewhere for too long. We kept doing this for a couple of years and then finally we moved back into our rebuilt house. For the next couple of years people would ask me questions like “which do you like more, your new house or your old house” and every time I would say “my old house” because to me that was my home. Eventually, I settled into my current house and I can now call it my home. But no matter what house I live in, my old childhood home will always be held close to my heart. Now that I am older I realize home means memories. Memories, like the time my brother and I made cookies and got frosting all over us, or the time my family went camping in our backyard. To me home is a sense of belonging and family because when I'm with my family or in my home I never feel judged or like I don't belong. To me home is a place you can call your home with pleasure and the knowledge that it will always be there if not physically then in your heart and memories.
