What Home Means To Me

Home can mean many things depending on who you ask. To many people, to many animals, home is where the heart is. Home gives you comfort, shelter, somewhere to eat, somewhere to drink, and somewhere to rest. But on the other hand, it can be the opposite. Home isn’t always good but when that happens it also doesn’t have to be bad, like when you have to do chores or cleaning or sometimes where you work. During the past couple of years people’s views on home have changed a LOT just because of COVID. Right now let's think about the positives from having a home like having shelter on a wet rainy day or having air conditioning on a hot summer day. Let's continue to think of all the other good things that come from having a house, frozen food, a comfy bed, and a LOT more. But there are also plenty of ok and bad things that can come with having a house. And on that note let’s go into the downside of having a home. As I was saying there are plenty of things that aren’t that great like having to work or clean, or having bad things at home like no heat when it’s cold. There are also things that are bad about homes such as not the nicest family to come home to, having a small house where you can’t put many things or you are squashed, not having electricity which means no fridge, no technology, and plenty of other things that are like that too. During these past years during COVID-19 some people felt trapped but others felt safe, even lucky to be in their homes. People felt trapped in their homes because of the restrictions. We couldn’t see each other. I get why they didn’t want to stay in their homes. I asked my family so many times “can I go outside and play with my friends now?” but their only answer was always no. But I also get why people felt safe to be in their houses. COVID was out there, but we were in our safe comfortable homes. Some people even felt lucky to be in their houses and, yes I am sure you can guess what I’m going to say next, I get why they feel safe. It is because there were doctors and nurses working and saving people. But the doctors and nurses had a much bigger chance at getting COVID. Right now all of those things meaning with COVID-19, with the goods and the bads those are some of the things that define the meaning of home to me.
