A Home

A HOME By: Devin Goldstein Home sweet home, what does that mean? A home can mean many things to different people, this is what a home means to me… A home should be a place that you feel safe for you and everyone who visits. It should be a good place to come home to after a bad day from work or school. It should feel like a safe place. When I was a little girl, I thought my parents’ room was the safest spot within my house, not even my own bedroom. I would have bad dreams and thoughts at night, like people were going to hurt me, so, each night I would always end up sleeping in my parents’ room. I would quietly sneak into their room late at night. I am not so proud of that now. However, my parents worked with me and helped me think of things that would help me sleep in my own bed at night. Like having the closet door open or keeping a night light on. Now, I feel really safe in my room, and I am happy that I am not as scared of things anymore, like when I was a younger girl . A home should also be a place to have fun! It should be filled with happiness and great memories for when you grow older. My house is not only fun, it is also loud and exciting. One of the happiest and funniest memories was when we went to our pool with our cousins. My mom challenged us to pile up all of our pool floaties and make different things like a bridge or a tower. When we made the bridge, we all had a chance to go across it. First, my little sister went on the bridge. Then, my younger cousin went on the bridge. Then, it was my turn. (we took turns by age) It was really hard to cross the floatie bridge, as it started to break apart, I had to jump right off into the water. Those simple memories in my house with my cousins will last forever. Have you ever been lonely? Have you ever been home alone? I think your home should be filled with lots of loved ones. Like your parents, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. My home is never lonely, it is always loud and really noisy (sometimes too noisy!). Each Friday night, we all eat dinner together and sometimes we giggle and laugh too much at the dinner table. I think that when it is quiet it is sad. I think all homes should be at least a little bit loud. You know what I mean? Another time we definitely were not quiet was when my cousins were over and we were playing capture the flag. When we play it is never, I say never quiet! We run around the house, from upstairs all the way to the basement - even if my dog Bowie barks at us to stop! One day, when we were playing, my team was losing. I hate losing. So, I had to cheat to win - so I did! My team cheated, then we won! I was so happy but not my sister was not. She figured us out! It was a big laugh and now we don’t cheat anymore. So although my house can be too loud at times, it is always a good loud sound when you are laughing and playing together inside! One of the biggest things you need in a home is family. I love my family so much that without them I don’t know what will happen to me. I have sort of a big family. It is a family of 5. I am the middle child. I hate being the middle child. I have an older and younger sister. They keep me entertained in their own special way. We are always a team. So, in conclusion, a home should feel safe, noisy, filled with family and loved ones. It should also be a place to have special memories that you will remember when you are older. That is why my home is a sweet one!
