Home
Home is Canada, where I was born and raised. I am proud to be Canadian because I live in a safe country with peace, a country where people have the right to live with people from different parts of the world and free education for everyone.
In 1957 my relatives arrived in Canada from Northern Greece to start a new life and to escape war in Greece. They learned to speak English and worked very hard to settle in their new home. Today Canada is home to many families from many different countries who are finding the same peace as my relatives once were.
Living next to people that come from different parts of the world makes Canada very special because I can learn about different cultures and celebrations and make friends with people who I might never have met if they weren’t living in Canada. I also like sharing my culture with other people too. Many cultures are very close to each other and we realize that we are not so different.
In some parts of the world not all boys and girls get to go to school. Some can't afford to go to school, others need to work to help support their families and in some countries families don't think there is a need to send their daughters to school. Sadly, not all kids get to grow up and be what they want to be. In Canada all children go to school for free until Grade 12. School is really fun in Canada because we have recess and assemblies and class trips, but the best part is class parties! I am very grateful for the schooling I get in Canada.
This is what my home country Canada means to me - peace and safety, making new friends with different people and a chance to learn and earn your success.
Thank you,
Gabriella
