The Meaning Of Home

Home is important as it is a place where you can feel safe. Home is the place where you feel most relaxed and you can be your true self. Home is where I can sleep in my room. It protects me from the weather and the cold. Home is where people can isolate and stay safe to protect their health during a pandemic. Everyone is entitled to have a home of their own as a basic human right. It is where you feel that you can have a place of refuge. Homes physically protect people from the harsh Canadian weather of all seasons. Homes also provide emotional support and comfort for those who live there. Houses provide a roof over our heads and give privacy for people living there. It is a place where people are most comfortable. Home has never been more important as more people than ever before are working from home, entertaining at home and spending more time there. A home is closely associated with family, the people who mean the most to you. Home is where celebrations take place for Christmas and birthdays or other religious celebrations, it is where memories are made. Memories that can last a lifetime. Many people’s earliest memories are tied to experiences they had at their childhood homes. One of the big things about owning your own home is that it is a reasonably safe way to build up some savings. As the home is paid for the value in the house belongs to the homeowner and provides financial security. Habitat for Humanity loans the money to a family to buy a home. As that money is paid back it is used to finance another home for someone else. This results in the same money helping a number of families. The more positive people feel about their homes, the better their mental well being. More people value a clean and organized home more now than prior to the pandemic. This all ties back to how people are spending most of their time at home. This is why I feel everyone should have a home to improve their lives physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It should be a basic human right and Habitat for Humanity is helping to make sure it is not one only available to the people who can afford the house but for everyone.
