A Home for Everyone

Home is the nest, we fly to every night Home is the best, where everything’s right. It might look simple, but kings and queens live here Mom yells to clean up and they magically disappear It won't make it on the “cleanest homes” cover But it will make it on the “most loving places ever”. Home is warm, home is comfort Home is oasis, in the dry desert Home is mom’s food, cooked for me Home is grandma, warm and snuggly. I learn at home, from the people around me The teachings, the morals, the conversations surround me… Arguments with siblings, scuffles and fights Sick kids, fussy pets, parents staying up nights Through good and bad, we struggle and grow Through it all we’ll be okay, we somehow know. We grow up and go our separate ways But in our hearts, we always remember. Home is safety, home is sanctuary It's a part of us, forever. In the olden times, ancestors came together Neighbor helping their neighbor, shoulder to shoulder Helping each other, raise the barn. I saw this myself once, when my cousin’s house once burned down Her neighbors took them in, Fed them, housed them, were family to them, Till a new house they had found. Showed me that home is bigger than just your house. So let's work together, neighbors and build a home For every homeless child to call her own It's her want, it’s her need, it's her birthright A safe haven to fly back to, every night.
