Ashlyn's Secret

Amelia was on her way to school when she saw a girl in her class, Ashlyn, coming to school as well. Amelia decided to go say hi. When she went over, Ashlyn jumped at the sound of a voice. She seemed scared. ¨You ok?¨ Amelia asked her.¨Yeah, you just startled me¨ Ashlyn said, sounding a little nervous. 'I need to be more careful´ she thought to herself `no one can find out about my secret´ ¨How was your weekend?¨ Amelia asked. ¨Great!¨ Ashlyn replied. She felt bad for lying, but no one could know about her secret. If anyone knew they would call child services and they would take her away from the only home she had ever known. Later that day, Amelia saw Ashlyn heading home. ¨Hey!¨ she called out, but Ashlyn didn't seem to hear. Amelia jogged over and said again, ¨Hey!¨ This time Ashlyn had to acknowledge her. ¨Hi¨ she said. ¨Want to walk home together?¨ Amelia asked. ¨No!¨ Ashlyn replied, maybe a little too quickly because Amelia seemed a little hurt. ¨Sorry, what I meant to say was I have swim lessons so you can't come over¨ Ashlyn covered. ¨Oh¨ said Amelia sounding less hurt. ¨Ok then, but do you want to come to my house for a sleepover?¨ ¨OK, I will ask my dad¨ Ashlyn said excitedly. She was very excited. After school that day she went to Amelia´s house. When she got there, she was surprised to see Amelia´s parents being so nice. She had never felt so at home anywhere in her life, not even her own house. Ashlyn decided that when she got home the next day she would finally call the kids help number from the back of the Smarties box.
