What is Home

What is Home? By: Mariam El Haj During my childhood I have lived in 5 different houses each with a different shape and design. From my experience It doesn't matter where you live, whether it is in a trailer or an apartment, if it is in a mansion or a cottage. The thing that makes home, home is the lovely feeling inside you and that feeling is love . As I am taking off my shoes I peer over to my left shoulder and stare at the pile of lego. I snap out of it and walk down the hallway. I pass my brother who is playing with some tops. Then I topple over the couch and join my sister who is playing with her robotic unicorn. Unless there is love , whatever I have doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what kind of things you have whether it is 1000 pieces of lego or 50 slime packets or even if you have the rare Babe Ruth rookie card. One of the things I feel when I play with toys is love for who got it for me and whom I am playing with. My stomach rumbles with hunger as I search for the perfect snack. Then I smell delicious Salmon on the grill. I set the table with plates and forks getting ready for the scrumptious meal. As I dig into the Salmon I taste something wonderful, and that something is love ! It doesn't matter whether you have plastic plates with leftovers to eat or fast-food. The only thing I taste in food is that it is prepared and served with love . I finish my supper and collapse on the couch. I feel like reading my favorite book. As I go grab it from the shelf, I hear my parents talking as my siblings join in. I suddenly put my book back on the shelf and joined in the loving talk. We talk about our problems and our solutions, we also talk about what we want and what we have. After talking with my family I feel relieved that I let go of things that I worried about to someone I love . It doesn't matter if you sit on a floor, or a cushion, a sofa or a throne, what matters is being in a place with people you love. From living in 5 houses I have learned that home is not the things inside it, or the food, or even the design. The thing that makes home, home is love .
