Meaning of Home

Millions of thoughts rushing through my head As I lay in my creaky, old bed I had been living in my house for weeks, months, years I have had many sleepless nights My mother and I had been in many endless fights I had put my head close to the warm, stained, old mattress. Our house was very gross, it was embarrassing I wish I had a better place to call home Even though I had family, was this what home meant? I am constantly worrying about my parents paying rent I feel helpless and alone I feel as though I am the only kid in this universe without a phone I am sick of eating soup every night At school I feel as though there is a spotlight Something is not right I am filled with freight Someone came knocking at my door It was a group of people who help the poor! They said they could help us call a better place home I would no longer be living on a pile of styrofoam Almost a year later, I was living in a home Safe, secure and not alone No more fights and no more sleepless nights Thank you Habitat for Humanity For helping families who need a place to call home Home should be a place with love, kindness happiness and everlasting memories Every family should have a safe, clean and comfortable place to call home.
