What Home Means to Me

I thought my old house would be my forever home. Each time I walked into my driveway I was so excited. I would see my dog in the window. He is always so excited to see me. When my parents told me that we were going to move into a smaller house they thought I would be happy but I was sad. There would be so much I would miss. All my friends in the neighbourhood would be gone. It's the last day of school before I leave and everything I own is gone. My stuffed animals, my clothes, my bed. Everything was packed in my suitcase. The house was empty. I didn’t want to move. But then I remembered some people don't have homes and don’t get to go to school like I do. They would love to be in the new house I am in. With my parents tucking me in and telling me stories and making memories. My family loves me. I guess maybe I should be happy with what I have. I should be grateful for what I get. Home is not just a place. It is somewhere that you can make new memories. Some people don’t get to do that. We should help them with that. A home is a comfortable place. It’s where your parents keep you safe. It doesn’t matter how small a house is. The only things that matter are that you have a nice place to live, fun things to do, and people who love you.
