Meaning of Home

My family is lucky enough to have a home but there are 200,000 people in Canada experiencing homelessness every year. The first things that pop into my head about home are having gatherings, learning things or just having a roof over my head. Homes come in all shapes and sizes all over the world. Having a home means you have shelter, food and safety. I’m lucky that my home provides me with a warm place to sleep. My home also includes a fridge full of healthy food. In my home I am safe, so I don't have to worry about the weather or people taking my things. I am grateful that my home gives me all the things I need. Home is a great place to spend time alone, with friends or family. I’m fortunate to have my own room so I can draw, read and play video games. I like to have friends over to my house to play tag, basketball and swim. Sometimes we have family game or movie nights. Being at home is fun. Home is a place to learn new skills. Composting is a great skill to learn because it helps the environment and reduces waste in a landfill. Cooking is a helpful skill so you can make your own food. I’ve learned to cook by reading books or watching cooking shows at home. Cleaning can be useful to keep your home from being dirty and to make sure you’re healthy. Home is a great place to learn. A home gives you protection, a place to hangout, and an opportunity to learn life skills. I am thankful to have a home because I know there are many people without them. I hope that one day homelessness can end so everyone can feel safe.
