The Meaning of Home

The Meaning of Home By Nayeem Johny Home is a place, but not just any old place. It’s the place where I can be whatever I want, and I can just be me. I could be myself and not worry about what other people think. I could be a superhero cleaning up my room! Not my closet, of course. I could watch a movie with my parents on a Friday night like always, but it's a bit annoying with my little brother crying all the time. I remember how we stayed in the basement for 9 hours because there was a tornado warning, and when I went upstairs to check what was happening outside and it just looked like a normal spring day with a bit of a drizzle. Everybody was glad and angry at the same time when we figured out the tornado warning was only for northern Ontario. I will always remember all the times when my little brother ate my cereal on accident when we were running late for school (which happened way too many times in the 2 years we’ve went to school together). We always overreact when that happens. We don’t talk for the whole day and act like nothing happened the next day even though we know it’s a small problem. When I'm at home, nothing is perfect. But that’s the best part! Nothing has to be perfect! Even with all the noise, my little brother asking my mom for a cookie and my dad mowing the lawn, home is the most comforting place in the universe. The only problem is most people take their homes for granted. There are way too many people that don’t have a home or are struggling to pay for one. That used to be my family too until Habitat for Humanity accepted our request for a home! At the time, my little brother wasn’t there yet and I was too young to understand what was happening, but my parents were overjoyed! Now, I still thank Habitat for Humanity for our home whenever I think about the people who don’t have a home. Everybody deserves their own home!
