Home is a Feeling
Some people might think that a house and a home are just buildings. But I think differently.
I agree a house is just a building, but a home is a feeling. A feeling that you're safe. I feel safe when I think about the fact that I actually have a strong structure to live in. It’s also a feeling that you’re loved.
When you're in a house you are in a structure, an apartment, a friend’s house. But when you’re at home you don't need to be in any building. You can be anywhere because being at home is just a feeling.
Sometimes when I'm just hanging out with my family, maybe outside, I feel like I’m at home. When I feel at home I’m happy, I feel happy when I can get cuddles from my parents when I go to bed. I feel at home when I bake with my Mom and my brother. I love baking and I have a lot of fun baking with my family. Even when I'm in a house I may not feel “at home” because for me to be at home I have to be comfortable, when I’m at home I feel like I can just open the fridge and get a snack. When I am at a “house” I am a little shy to ask or say that I’m hungry. I need to feel safe and I need to feel like I can be open and there is someone there for me. When I feel at home I feel safe, I feel loved, I feel loved when I can just get a hug when I am sad. I mostly feel at home when I am with my family.
You can be at home at any time but a home is a place that welcomes you no matter what. I am so grateful to Habitat for Humanity for building safe warm houses for people in need.
