Essay about Home

I am going to tell you what home means to me. When I am at home, I feel safe and relaxed. I feel like nothing bad can happen to me. If I am out in the cold then I will be happy when I get home because I will be warm. It is nice to have a comfortable area. Over 4.5 million people in Canada are in poverty. They either are renting, living in a basement, or don't even have a home and are living on the side of the street. Unfortunately, people have been struggling to find a place to live and call home. When I am eating food and playing games, homeless people are probably begging for money and looking for any little scrap of food that they can eat to survive. Did you know that 12.3 percent of Ontario is in poverty? We may not be able to do much but maybe together we can at least show that we care about this topic. In my home, I can do stuff that I would not do in school, like pray and say grace. Just the thought of that makes me feel bad for those millions of people who don’t have the chance to have a home. That is why I am joining this contest. I am doing this because I have a good opportunity to make an impact on someone's life in my community. Chapman’s Ice Cream has made a big impact on poverty in Canada, so I am determined to follow in their footsteps. I like the feeling that kids my age, across Canada, are joining together to help Habitat for Humanity and Chapman’s Ice Cream bring people out of poverty and into a home like mine.
