Steady Love & Sturdy Walls
A brand new love
And a brand new space
Shiny, big and sturdy,
With extra rooms in case
Who knows what lies ahead for a young new couple
In a few years, the habitants could double
A lifetime of happiness ready to be made
And photos to be taken, so memories don’t fade
Now they are settled, no need to roam
New curtains, wallpaper and paint make it a home
The lights warm the house, at night when it’s dark
A fire begins with one little spark
Flowers are planted in the garden to grow
The trees spread their branches to shelter the home
A fence is built to keep in a new dog
There is a new bed for it to sleep like a log
Suddenly one day a tiny baby arrives
This is where she will grow, cry, sleep and thrive
Before long, more children have settled inside
The heart of the home grows so big and wide.
Crayons and paint, and dents mark the wall
A growth chart is added as they grow so tall
Birthdays and holidays fill up the house
With family and friends and maybe a mouse!
Laughter and singing fill up the halls
Supper is ready! Their young mother calls
Some days are hard, with fighting and crying
But everyone knows that they are all trying
Grateful for space to unwind and be real
Their home is their haven to live and to feel.
The walls offer protection and the windows bring light
They sleep in their beds all through the night
Tables and chairs and couches get worn
The curtains all fade and slowly get torn
The children have grown and moved out and moved on
They’ve packed all their things, and now they are gone
The house feels so empty, the dog has passed on
The happy young couple is now all alone.
The house is quite creaky, and some windows are cracked
But it’s full of good memories and that is a fact
Old age has taken a toll on the couple
They have to move out before the house topples
On the day that they leave and they shut the door
A tear from the house hits the old wooden floor
This big old house with four sturdy walls
Kept steady love growing and memories for all.
A home is not just a place to forget
It teaches us all to never regret
Years have gone by, but a new couple sees
A house and a yard with potential and needs
They don’t have the money because times are hard
But the community comes together to give them a card:
“We’ve purchased this home to fix up for you
We know we can make it so clean and so new
Everyone deserves a place to call home
A place to retreat and to no longer roam
This house full of memories has room for some more
Now it’s your turn to open the door.
Cherish this place and fill it with love
Remember that this all comes from Above”
