Habitat for Humanity
It's December 9th, 2022. I was saying goodbye to my neighbours as I moved onto a new chapter of my life. For a long time, my fear was to move and to see everything I knew and loved vanish. I moved to Stratford from Kitchener. My new house was different and more modern, and I did not feel at home. My old house had a playground in the backyard where I made a lot of good memories. When I left, I was scared the new family would take it down. I went to my new school in Stratford on January 11th of that year. Not only was I attending a new school mid-year, it was also online because of the pandemic. I was nervous, but all I had to do was say hi and I made friends. That was the first time that I started to feel at home. After a while I had a cool new room and a few friends who I knew I would hold onto for a long time. Once I felt like a friend not a stranger, I felt at home. The way Stratford made me feel at home was the community, people smiling and even saying hi while walking down the street. That made me feel a lot more at home. Your home is your community, family and friends. It is not just a building.
