Home Is Feeling Like I Can be Myself

This year in school we learned a lot about belonging and what home means. To me, home is feeling like you belong, doing something you love, doing something you’re passionate about. It’s not something that you get frustrated about every 5 minutes or have to act like something you're not. When I’m at home I feel like I can be myself, and I know that when I’m at home I can do what I like and I’m not worried about people criticizing me. You can have more than one place that you can call home. This could include school, at your best friends house, or an after school activity like sports or music lessons. The key is you have to ask yourself, “Do I feel like I belong here?” or “Do I feel like I can be myself here?” Sometimes I forget to do that and it doesn’t go as well as when I am completely honest with myself. In grade 5 there’s a lot of drama with lots of people not being themselves just because they want people to like them. People should like you for who you are, not the “too good to be true” person you’re trying to be. This year, I’m going to work on that. I’m going to surround myself with people who make me feel like I belong and where I can be myself. This way, I can always feel like I am home and be the best ME!
