Home: A structure, sentimentally.

Home. What a simple word. By definition, it is “The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household.” A home can be many things, it could be anywhere you feel protected and safe. In my home, we have a foundation. Yes, it can be made of cement, brick and wood. However, will we ever state how a support system is the true foundation of a home? To make an environment a home, you must have an attachment. Protection. Support. Love. Appreciation. I see a home with those words alone. A house is the protection of the physical concerns of the world. Rain, snow, heat, hurricane to earthquake, the house will act as a form of protection. A home is the protection of mental concerns. Stress, pain, torment, fear, paranoia. My walls are privacy. A shelter and the separator of two dimensions, reality and safety. My windows are a glimpse of reality as I realize I can never run away from the world's true cruelties, the most I can do is have a gasp of air before being thrown into the ocean of our world. My floor is grounding. Knowing that I am fortunate enough to be grounded both mentally and physically. A bookshelf of memories. A painstakingly long day can never compare to going home every day to not only a structure but a mental escape of creativity, imagination and freedom. My house is not perfect, as my home will never be. Cracks may appear, fundamentally and socially. The structure may begin to tatter. The paint on the walls may chip to reveal our true nature. Love, love, love. If you can say it loud enough, you’ll soon be able to appreciate it for it shall be one of the only constants in our lives. We must hold faith that our homes will stay strong. No matter the fights, hurricanes, disagreements, snowstorms or heartbreaks. Our true foundation is love, support and appreciation. The one thing we can control. The one thing that makes my house transform into a home.
