Home (Essay)
Home. Noun:
A place where someone lives permanently especially as a member of a family or household
Relating to a place where one lives
The meaning of home in the dictionary is not very different from what I define home as, but I would add a few things. When I get home from school I feel untroubled and carefree like nothing could ever make me leave. The warmth of my home covers me like a fluffy blanket. Home to me is a place where I can be me and I don't have to worry about doing anything for anybody else. I don't have to perform for anybody, I can do whatever I want and not have to worry about anything.
Enough about me for now. Here are some things that I personally think everybody should have in their home. I think that everyone should have that warm feeling like a blanket that protects you and keeps you safe. It's not a real thing, it's imaginary. It's made up of happiness, sadness and all kinds of feelings. There is nothing more important than a good safe home. A house may be decorated from floor to ceiling with the finest furnishings money can buy, but that doesn’t really matter. Home is a refuge from the world, a place where it doesn't matter what you do or what you look like. It is a place where you can just be you.
There are a few places I call home like my country, my house, my street. Home doesn't necessarily even mean you live there but it might feel like home to you. Your parents might be divorced so you have two homes. You might even live with your grandparents sometimes. In this case, you might have two homes, one with your parents and one with your grandparents. Home can even be a place that you lived for a very short period of time. Maybe even a vacation home!
I am extremely grateful for my home and my family. The people that live on the streets and in shelters don't have a home because they might have got evicted or kicked out by their parents or may have addictions. They might have lost their family too. It's those little things that you might not think about that creates a home. For instance, you think eating breakfast, lunch and dinner is “normal,” whereas the people on the streets might only get one small meal for the whole week. Food is an important thing in life; it can symbolize culture and love and more. It can be an important part of your home.
Home shouldn't be a place where you feel unsafe, alone and sad. Although everyone is sad sometimes it shouldn't be an ongoing thing for long periods of time. Always remember even when you feel alone and unloved, there is always somebody that loves and cares for you but maybe doesn't know how to show it. I hope that everyone can find that somebody and can feel safe and loved. At home.
