The Meaning of Home

Home is not about wether you have a house or the size of your house or even the price. Home is about who you are with, like your family, community and friends. It can be anyone you are close to and love. No matter what your home looks like it is always a unique, safe and comforting space. Every home and family is different. My family makes my home, we are all very athletic. When I think of home, I think about everyone gathering on occasions and playing basketball together in our backyard. Home is when we play board games, and fight over who's winning. To me home is when we are all together, gathered and happy. My community around me also makes me feel at home. I am very thankful that in my community I have a school and a grocery store that we can walk to. I am glad that my community is full of great opportunities. One opportunity that I am especially grateful for is the gymnastics facility close by, and because of that I have been doing gymnastics for 4 years. Gymnastics is one of my homes because they are my friends. I am there so often they have become like family, and home is family, community, and friends. Despite all that I have said there is more to home. To me home is also where you are from. My grandparents and one of my parents are from Jamaica and most of my family is from there too. We might think that home is where we live but Jamaica can be my home even though I live in Canada. No matter what, as long as that place is a place that makes me feel safe with the people I love, it is home to me. This is the meaning of home to me. This might be different than any other family but my family is perfect for me. Despite what I thought before, what I said is the real meaning of home.
