There is No Place Like Home

The word home may be four letters long And it’s appearance may look small, but it is strong. The dictionary may say it is where one lives permanently, But it is when we are with people we love and when we are free. Home is the base where everything begins It is where we belong and truly fit in. My home is my family, striding as one, Having an unbreakable, loving bond. It is where I took my first steps, starting small And collapsing on the ground, again I fall. I stand back up and try again, Walking steadily across to the end. My family carried me until I could walk, And they were the ones who taught me to talk. They helped me to accomplish the basic things, Helping me survive what life brings. It takes hands to build a house, But hearts to build a home that will arouse. A home is built not by bricks or wood, But the bond of a family that together stood. A house holds all of our belongings, But a home holds our hearts and well-being. A home is a place of love and comfort, Where we can have respect and support. It’s a place of joyous laughter, and sometimes tears, A treasure chest of memories collected through the years. When we think of our home, it always seems to make us smile For it really is a part of what makes our life worthwhile. A home is deserved by everyone young and old, But some are out there freezing in the cold. We can build a house by writing a poem, We can build one another and make a change for the better.
