The Ultimate Blessing
The Ultimate Blessing
When I’m outside, I am very sad to see
People without shelter, a place to call home
All the poor, the hungry, so much poverty
I am thankful to have my own place to roam
It has been my refuge for many many years
I don’t care if it’s made of styrofoam
In it, I have overcome my greatest fears
Many people aren’t as blessed as me, I think
They don’t have a place like mine, to shed their tears
A place with bathrooms, a kitchen, and a sink
It must be terrible, living on the streets
Not really knowing when might be your next drink
Not having a bed with blankets or snug sheets
How do they deserve a brutal life like that?
Warm beds and comfy places are considered treats
Not having a place for buying a doormat
To wake up and not have a warm place to be
Trying to sleep on a place that is flat
I am extremely lucky you see
I so often take it for granted, this place
So I just think it is a necessity
I can’t express my gratitude for this space
It will be sad to move away from here
I will miss its warm and welcoming embrace
Memories from my house will not disappear
Habitat for Humanity earns my cheer
