What is Home?

You ask me what ‘home’ means and I just seem to know Like the words to old songs on the car radio ‘‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’’ and ‘’My Hometown’’ Everything so familiar when I look around. The smells of the mainstreet the people and sounds If ‘out there’ is like hide & seek Home feels like I’m found. But so many times I’m reminded it’s luck That I’m home and cozy when others are not On a walk to the store to buy a sweet treat I’ve passed people sleeping out on the street And times when I hiked or skied by the river I saw flickers of tents and the people who lived there. My hope is for everyone to know what I know That home is a feeling you feel in your bones Your world feels like it’s yours when you look all around You feel safe and protected-- familiar and found.
