The Meaning of Home

In a literal sense, a home is a building in which you live in, but once you take a step inside, it is much more complex than that. Home is a place where I feel safe. I feel safe for many reasons. The most obvious one is that I have a roof over my head to protect my family and I from dangerous weather such as a storm. I also feel safe because of the people that surround us. Our wonderful neighbours always go the extra mile. Whether it’s the little things like picking up our mail to warning us to evacuate because of an unfortunate fire nearby, we as a community always look out for one another. In my opinion, home is also place where we create memories that will last forever. It’s a place to spend time with family, to celebrate holidays, to laugh, to cry, a place to admire one’s baby pictures hung up all over the wall. Most importantly, a home is the place that a person grows up in, where the memories they make shape who they become as time goes on. Finally, home is a place where you are free to express yourself. The saying “You do you” is the perfect way to describe the way every home is tailored and decorated to one’s liking. No two homes are the same. I like to think the way a person decorates their home says a lot about their character and their personality, with each one being unique and special in it’s own way. Seeing the impact a home has on every single one of us, we should never take it for granted and realize how fortunate we are to have a roof over our heads and to be in a secure, loving and nurturing environment.
