What home means to me
My home is very important to me because it holds who I was in the past, who I am in the present, and who I will be in the future. You may be wondering how can a home hold my past, my present, and my future? How I see things, my memories represent the past. Who I am, represents the present, and the life long lessons that I am learning represents the future. I will try to explain these ideas the best I can.
My home is a place that holds many memories from my childhood. It is the place where we have friends and family over for afternoon barbeques, scavenger hunts on our birthdays, and special celebrations and holidays like Christmas. I love the excitement of waking my parents up early on Christmas mornings. My home is filled with fun memories of things that I love to do with the people I love most.
Who I am is taught at home by my parents, grandparents, relatives, and Elders. At home, I learn about my different histories of the Oneida, Taiwanese, British, and Irish peoples. Learning about who I am, helps to shape my identity in the present because knowing this connects me to my family and my communities.
The future is also connected to my home because it is the place where I continue to learn life long lessons that affect my future. At home, I learned that no matter how hard things can be, that I should never quit. Even if I do fall, I get back up on my feet and work through the challenge. I also learned important life lessons like learning from past mistakes so that I don’t repeat them in the future. Another lifelong lesson that I learned from home is to speak up and do the right thing if I see something that’s not right.
To conclude, my home is more than just a place where I live and sleep. My home is a meaningful place that represents memories from my past, who I am right now, and it also represents my future through the lifelong lessons that I learn.
