Meaning of Home

Driving around Peterborough with my family, I see people begging for money. I wonder if they have a home or a place to feel comfortable, safe and happy? I think of my home and how much I appreciate it. There is a difference between a house and home. I think of my personal stuff that makes my house a home. I also believe that everyone no matter who they are deserves a home. Homeless people can live in shelters but that is just a roof over their head. When people are staying in other peoples places to them they are staying in a house. When someone has all of their personal stuff in a house that is what makes it their home. Their personal things make them feel safe, secure and loved. I have many personal things that make my house a home. First, I have my family. They are the people who help me feel safe, secure and happy. Second, I have my pets, without them my home would not feel the same. Third, the stuff from when I was younger, for example my baby book, stuffies and souvenirs from family trips make my house a home. Having a home is bigger than just your personal things inside. It is also the neighborhood and community around you that help you feel like you belong. Whether you live in a condo , a townhome or a great big mansion if you have friends in your neighbourhood to check in with you it makes it feel like a true home. No matter what your income is, what level of education you have, or where you come from, I believe that everyone deserves a chance to have a home. I realize how lucky I am to have a home of my own.
