My Home

Once, when I went to bed, I had a dream… A very miserable one. I imagined that I was a homeless boy on a cold, dark street of Toronto sometime in winter. Street lights shined their poor light on the road. I was STARVING, scared and needed to find a place to spend the night. The shelter I used to go to was full so I didn’t know where else to go. I had no other choice other than to go under the bridge. My stomach rumbled… The last time I ate was yesterday when I got some money from kind and caring people. It was enough to buy myself a small sandwich. It was delicious but memories about it make my stomach hurt. I decided to find a shelter under the bridge. Suddenly, I saw a tall and skinny shadow moving towards me. I ran away. My heart was racing and I woke up! I was in my cozy and warm bed under my favorite blanket. My dog was snoring next to me. My parents and an older brother were sleeping in their rooms. I woke up my mother and told her about my nightmare. She hugged me very tightly and said a few calming words. I felt safe and endlessly grateful for what I have. I realized how incredibly hard it is being without a home and the people who love you. Everyone should have a place he/she can call home and share with his/her family. Home is a place where we feel safe and happy, where we build memories, and have all the things we need to live a decent and healthy life. I learned that Habitat for Humanity has a great program to build homeless people houses. All the homeless people need to do to get the house is by contributing their work. By writing this story, I want to give my two cents towards someone gaining the access to having a house, and making it their home. It will make their life a lot easier and give them a better future. It is great that companies like Habitat for Humanity exist and help others.
