What Home Means to Me
The word home to me is a nice, peaceful word that makes me feel great and warm, and it’s where I live my life with my family. Families come in all different shapes and sizes. In my home, we are a blended family, which includes my mom, step dad, 3 step sisters, and a new sibling on the way. We also have a puppy named Charlie. As well, my grandparents have moved in recently, and they have a dog named Miss Daisy. So what makes a house feel like a home? Well, blended families sure have their challenges.
One of the challenges is that everyone comes with their own history. Some people have a sad history, like loss, others have been through devorice, and much more. I have learned that before becoming a blended family, there has been pain in the past. So how did everybody learn to come together in a new family unit? One thing is, you have to be kind and sensitive to each other. You also have to be grateful about how lucky you are to have each other, and try your best to stay positive and considerate of one another. Therefore, home to me is a place where we are all kind, grateful, considerate, and patient with each other. This takes a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it!
Before my family blended it was just me and my mom. When my mom got married to my step dad I also got 3 new step sisters. Well, having sisters can be tough, but when it's a blended family it takes more than that. First of all, you have to learn your sisters’ habits and ways of living. Then you have to learn what they like doing with their time, so you can see what you both like and both dislike, that way you can find out how you can bond and get to know each other. In my home we are all different people, and we also have to be accepting of each other, and love each other for who we are. Therefore home is a place where you feel free to be who you are and everyone can be accepting and loving even with our differences. This project has made me more grateful for my home and each of the people in it, and I have realized how far we have come in the past few years. I have also realized that my family is very unique from others, but that is why my home is very special. We are so excited to welcome a new baby brother or sister into our amazing home, where he or she will grow up with lots of warmth and love.
