Many Houses, One Home

Many Houses, One Home On the website Dictionary.com, the definition of a home is, “a house, apartment or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family or household.” As I will go on to explain, I believe that a home is so much more than just a building. My Mom, Dad, younger sister and I have made our home in five different places in Ontario in my lifetime. Beginning with an apartment, we then moved on to our first house, then on to a rental property, followed by our second house and finally, our third house. Moving around so often can be overwhelming, but the fact that we are “home” wherever we are together can make even a hotel room a place of comfort. I am the oldest daughter of a Canadian Armed Forces member. We move every two to four years. Home to me is actually my family. A house is a place for my family to seek refuge and make memories with each other and family and friends. Home is a place of peace and joy. My home is filled with laughter, music and love. I think every home should be like that. I am thankful that we have each other, a warm house, food, a warm bed and the love we have for one another. A house is an important part of a person's wellbeing. We all need food, water, shelter and clothing. As important as these practical aspects of a house are, I believe that each person in this world also needs love, friendship, compassion and the listening ear that being in a home provides. Let's give others the hope of a HOUSE so they can build a HOME.
