The Meaning of Home

When I think of home, I think of the smells of Jamaican patties or the scent of my mother's lavender cream. I think about the feel of the hardwood floor under my feet and the softness of the carpet in my room, I think of feeling warmth under my covers. Without opening my eyes, I can see the hallway and the living room beside me, I see the fireplace and the backyard. Without listening I hear the washing machine going and the sound of food hitting a pan. I think of all the memories I have made that I remember every time I step into my house. But most of all what makes a place able to be called a home is knowing that you're always safe and welcome in the place that you call a home.
