What is Home?
Home. Such a simple, yet complicated word. What is it exactly? You hear the word almost everywhere. What does it even mean? Let’s stop to think for a bit. What emotions does the word home evoke in you? Warmth? Joy? Safety? Familiarity? Well, to many people it means somewhere they can go back to at the end of a long, hard day of work or school, a place where they can recharge and eat, but most importantly, a place where they can thrive. Each home is different and unique in it’s own way, good or bad.
Still, 300,000 people (just in Canada alone!) have nowhere to call home. Roughly 20-50 percent of that number is Indigenous Peoples. 300,000 is a huge number, and the fact that almost half of it is Indigenous peoples is downright depressing. We, as Canadians, should do something about this.
