Home To Me

Home is where I feel loved by my family and friends and safe from the outside world. When I am at home I don’t have to worry about being hungry. At home I feel like I can express my problems to my family and not have my family laugh at me. My family doesn’t say that my problems are not important. At night when we snuggle close I know that I am loved, loved by my sisters, mom, dad and my dog. Some nights I listen to the pages of a book flip as my sister reads or the faint sound of little paws on polished wood and I know that I am safe. Safe from rude comments and unkind behaviour. When it is morning, I feel the weight of the blankets and I see the dark room with bits of light streaming through the cracks in the curtain like lasers and I am ready for the day to begin. I don’t have to worry about having a home to feel safe inside. I am so thankful for a home where I feel safe. I like to wake up and there is food downstairs. I have never had to worry about not having food to eat. I think of the people who do not have food and I remember that I am so fortunate. During dinner I hear the familiar clank of cutlery and tasting the flavors burst in my mouth and the feeling of being full. I am so grateful for all the food we have. I will always think of the people who do not have someone who loves them, safety and food and I will always be grateful for all I have.
