This Is Home

Home means waking up in my house, that's as dark as a crow's feather in the morning and hearing my dad snoring. Creeping downstairs to listen to music in my headphones and seeing my dog wagging his fluffy tail like I'm going to throw his favorite bone. The rush to get our lunch prepared for school. A before-school pep talk from my dad saying, “Don't be stressed. Just play it cool.” It's a place where I wind down, a place where there's no frown. It's where people help me if I'm stressed, or if I'm not feeling my best. It's where some of my favourite memories are made. It's where I celebrated the end of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade. Home is where I share stories about my day and listen to my family's tales, hanging on to every word they say. I think home needs to be inclusive, accepting, respectful, uplifting and bright. So home is the best and you know I'm right! If I looked for another home and searched the whole world, both high and low, there's still only one place I would want to go. This is home.
