More Than Four Walls

What is the difference between a house and a home? You might think they’re the same, but they’re not the same at all. A house is built of 4 walls, but a home is built from memories. Your house is just a structure, just shelter, just there. But your home is different, it's where you belong, where you are loved and where you’re never alone, no matter what. So, what is a home, is it big, is it small, is it short, is it tall? Is home in South Africa or Canada, is it in Australia or Egypt? A home is none of these, but a place where you feel safe and loved. When you are at home, you feel like it’s going to be ok, you don’t need to worry. Home is your sanctuary, your safe space. House refers to a building in which someone lives. A home is any place that a person thinks of as the place where they live and that belongs to them. It can only be a home if it's the place or people around whom you feel safe and loved. Home doesn't need to be a place, it can be with people or a community too, because home is where you feel safe, loved or like you belong. Have you not heard the saying, “Home is where the heart is”? According to the Oxford Dictionary, that phrase means that your home will always be the place for which you feel the deepest affection, no matter where you are. So you don’t need to be at your house to be home, you just need to be loved. Isaiah 32: 18 says, "My people will live in peaceful, dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest." That is what home means to me.
