What Home Means to Me

Home isn't just a place where you live. It is where you feel safe and loved. I touch my soft blanket that I curl up in in Winter with a cup of hot cocoa in my hand. I feel the warm mug in my hand and I feel it warm my whole body. That is how I feel when I'm with my family, like nothing can hurt me in my mom’s big warm hug. In the kitchen I can smell my mom’s new recipes she bakes. It smells so good that I can taste it already. In the living room my dad plays the guitar, making incredible music. The beat of the strum goes through the whole house, putting an acoustic melody through everybody's ears. It makes everybody happy when we hear it. The evening is my favorite part of the day because it is where we make new memories by watching movies and playing games. My mom makes crafts with me, and my dad and I do whatever we feel like doing. So what home means to me is making little memories that we will cherish forever. For me it's the small moments that count even if it's one hug. Home is where you are with family and having fun doing stuff together and not just a building you live in to stay safe and dry. So that is a real home. It is the love of a family that makes it home. It is where I am understood and where I belong. Wherever me and my family are, that is what I call home because we are together. That is why I think that everyone deserves a home because everyone deserves to feel safe and cared for.
