Home is like a Treasure Quest
Home is a treasure quest!
When I first moved to Vancouver from Pakistan, I left my home for a new one. I was scared and confused because I was starting from scratch all over again. It felt like gambling. But now I think finding a new home in Canada feels like being on a treasure quest.
I have learned that it takes time to feel accepted. On this quest you must find clues! My first lesson was not to ignore them. For example, a Nigerian boy in my school told me I was weird. But I figured out that he was just trying to understand me so we could be friends. We are now friends!
The journey towards this new home is challenging. I was sometimes bullied for being different. The recess time in school was a puzzle that I had to solve. But my new friends, support teachers and parents helped me figure it out. The secret was finding the right help!
I miss Pakistan every day and it is still hard. My quest is not over. But Canada is slowly becoming a place where I can belong and feel safe. It is an adventure without a map. I still miss so many clues. Moving is confusing sometimes but once you get it you will find your treasure. It's going to be hard but if you set your mind to it then you will figure it out.
