What does “Home” mean to me?

Home can be a place where you have shelter, love, and family. It is where you make memories. It may have all of the stuff you need like food, water, electricity, beds, bathrooms, and more. Some may not have access to these things, which is why I'm saying what it means to me. Home is really important for all of us. We all need a place to live with comfort, love, and warmth. It is a place for families to have a safe space and environment. We make memories at home. Home has a distinct smell that you recognize and like as soon as you walk in. When I was young, I never really understood what having a safe space felt like, because my mother neglected and abused me and my siblings. I never understood why. My dad had to leave for Canada as an escape from her. I was devastated and sad, until I understood why. He was building a better life for us. When my dad left, my mom made up lies about him. When we all finally moved to Canada, my dad, brother and I escaped from her and they got a divorce. My sister stayed. We all had trauma, anguish, and fear. It felt like being in a cage. Home didn’t feel safe. Now, I feel more safe and comforted than ever. I finally understand what home and a safe environment mean. People need this level of comfort and should never experience what I have gone through. Everyone should feel safe. My dad means a lot to me. He helps me work through stress, anxiety, and fear. I feel more warmth and love than ever. Everyone needs a home. Home to me is my dad.
