A Home Isn't Just Four Walls

For me, a house is where you come from school and plop down on your couch, but a home is where your family is and you feel welcome and included. When I walk up to my home, I feel a breeze from my mom’s garden. The air feels warm and gentle, like the plants are wrapping around me. Inside, I smell delicious desserts or dinner cooking in the oven. My mom is probably making dinner. My living room feels like a game room where I play on my computer or host visiting family. As an only child, I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a sibling to ride bikes with, but I am very happy and grateful for the home I have. I really love playing with my friends, and going on trips to my cottage. My favourite place to go is my cottage because I smell the beautiful leaves and plants in the air. My cottage is where I can run around and play with my cousins. In the kitchen, I bake cookies with my mom to share with our neighbours. Upstairs in my bedroom, I crochet with the yarn I got last Christmas. I'm learning a new stitch that my grandma taught me. When I mess up my stitch, my mom shows me how, and I try to figure it out with her. She helps me with my homework too. I try to help around my home with my family, and try to learn new things. Sometimes, I play soccer, and my dad is the coach. I play with my friends on the home soccer league in Barrie. Last year, I played with my friends, and we only lost one game! It was very exciting and I will never forget our last victory at the tournament.
