The Meaning of Home
By Maisie
For me the meaning of home is coming back from a long day at school and seeing my cat waiting there. His fluffy body on the little green bench he waits for me every day. His happy meows when I walk through the door and scratch his chin. His little jump up onto the couch and his purrs when he sees me, but that’s not all home is to me. For me home is also my mum humming a tune while cooking my favorite food, or my dad cheering me on when I put in a screw perfectly while building together. And at night when I’m safe and cozy in my bed with my cat sleeping peacefully purring on my chest, but some people don’t have this. No safe, secure, peaceful home to go back to after a long day and most of the time it’s because houses and apartments are too expensive. Most good and safe apartments rent starts at 2000 a month! Just imagine not having a home because it’s just too expensive, and this is where Habitats for Humanity comes in, you’re probably wondering `how can Habitats for Humanity even help` well let me explain, Habitats for Humanity builds affordable housing so homeless people can live in a safe affordable house and focus on stuff like getting a job, going into school if they never had the opportunity or starting a family eventually. I never realized how privileged I was until now, because people around the world don’t have access to clean water, food, housing, and more.
And that’s what home means to me.
